When creativity works–too well

Let’s not be too hard on Jonah Lehrer. Sure, he should have picked someone less popular (or more dead) to invent quotes for. But Bob Dylan has been playing fast and lose with his muses for years. Even Joni Mitchell has accused him of plagiarism. It was only a matter of time before someone returned the favor–albeit in reverse.

It was kind for his publisher (Houghton Mifflin) to offer refunds. But pulling the books from stores and from Amazon seems a bit excessive. This is not tainted baby food we’re talking about. The book still has value–maybe even more so!

It’s interesting the Lehrer has gone dark since the episode. He’s young and, with one exception, pretty smart. He’ll be back. Even Nixon came back.

In the meantime, perhaps he might want to do some research on the psychology of cheating.
