Gay rights and wrongs

In his article for The Forum from 2004, “Terrorism, Gay Marriage, and Incumbency: Explaining the Republican Victory in the 2004 Presidential Election,” Alan Abromowitz concluded that the culture wars played little role in George W. Bush’s reelection victory.

One of the architects of that strategy, Ken Mehlman, announced that he was gay, in the most recent issue of Salon. “At a personal level, I wish I had spoken out against the effort,” he said.

Politics makes for strange bedfellows, indeed.
